Gesture-rama: It's Fun!
April 21st - 22nd:
Sat: 2 - 5pm & Sun: 9:30 - 4:30pm
Gesture by EF
Gesture is what animates the pose and connects the parts into a whole - it is the lifeblood of drawing! Without a strategy to express this dynamic our figure drawings can quickly become stiff, wooden or mechanical.
In this fun, fast-paced figure drawing workshop you’ll learn essential ideas about human design and the power of line to distill the pose and describe its action.
Part I is an in-depth lecture/demo exploring the power of line and design as effective strategies to communicate important ideas about the figure such as action, weight, depth, volume, and rhythm. We'll cover the importance of ergonomics in gesture drawing, and view work by various drawing masters to understand how these concepts can be applied to your work.
Part II is draw, draw, draw the action of the pose using the concepts we learned in Part One! You’ll practice drawing to communicate the action of the figure and how its fluid, progressive interconnection of shapes tell the story of the pose.
The morning and afternoon session will each feature a different model in a variety of gestures and lighting conditions!

Gesture Drawing: The Power of Line!
In this demo I’ll cover several important and vital ideas about gesture drawing that you can begin applying to your drawing practice right away. And how the power of line can with great economy communicate the beauty and dynamic of the human figure.
I’ll also demonstrate how line can be used as shorthand to describe depth, weight, volume as well as how the parts connect as a whole. Ideas about the figure that can, and should be, thought about and expressed in a gesture drawing!
